Why Book Your Kusadasi Holiday with GotoBeach?

Kuşadası is the Aegean's great all-rounder — a lively, full-service beach town built around a busy marina and cruise port, with a long run of sandy beaches, a buzzing bazaar and, most remarkably, the magnificent ancient city of Ephesus barely twenty minutes up the road. It's a destination that gives you a proper Turkish holiday town and one of the greatest archaeological sites in the world on the same trip. The water is the cooler, fresher Aegean rather than the bath-warm Mediterranean, the resorts range from big family aquapark hotels to quiet adults-only retreats, and there is enough going on to fill a fortnight without ever feeling you've run out of things to do.

Every Kuşadası package we sell carries full ATOL financial protection under licence #11211, and your ATOL Certificate lands the moment you book — you can read how your ATOL financial protection works before you commit a penny. Each hotel on this page has been hand-picked and inspected in person against our 22-point criteria, not lifted from a brochure, so you are booking somewhere a member of our team has actually walked through, eaten in and checked against the view it promises.

"Kuşadası is where culture and beach really do meet — you can spend the morning walking the marble streets of Ephesus and the afternoon on a sunbed, and that combination is rare," says Raşit Eti, our Turkey Destination Specialist, who has spent more than thirty years in Turkish tourism — from senior management at Sunrise Queen and Mylome Luxury to director roles at Air Tours — and still travels the coast every season, re-checking the hotels on this page in person. "The Aegean here is cleaner and a touch cooler than the Med, the food is wonderful, and the hill villages like Şirince are some of my favourite corners of the country." If you want the bigger picture before you choose, his overview of holidays around Kuşadası and İzmir sets the town in context, and his guide to where to stay in Turkey helps you place it against the rest of the country. Meet Raşit Eti, our Turkey specialist.

Discover Kuşadası

Kuşadası is a town that earns its living from the sea and from history. At its heart is a big marina and one of Turkey's busiest cruise ports, with the little fortified Pigeon Island (Güvercinada) tied to the shore by a causeway and giving the town its name — “bird island”. Behind the waterfront, a warren of bazaar streets sells everything from leather and carpets to spices and Turkish delight, and the seafront promenade fills with families, ice-cream sellers and fishermen in the evening. It's a genuine working town, lively and welcoming, not a purpose-built strip.

What sets Kuşadası apart is what surrounds it. Ephesus — the best-preserved classical city in the Mediterranean, with its towering Library of Celsus and great theatre — is barely twenty minutes away. The hill village of Şirince, famous for its fruit wines and Greek-era houses, sits in the vineyards above. And the wild, pine-and-cove Dilek Peninsula National Park stretches south along the coast. So you can have a beach holiday with genuinely world-class culture and nature on the doorstep — a combination very few resorts can match. If you're weighing up the wider Aegean first, our overview of the Kuşadası region sets it in context.

Kuşadası beaches & seafront

The most famous stretch is Ladies Beach (Kadınlar Denizi), a lively crescent of sand a couple of miles south of the centre, lined with sunbeds, cafés and a buzzy holiday atmosphere. Long Beach (Uzun Plaj), running north towards Pamucak, is exactly what the name suggests — a wide, multi-kilometre sweep of sand backed by the big beach resorts, with plenty of room and water sports. In town, smaller beaches and the seafront promenade are handy for a quick swim between bouts of shopping. For something wilder, the beaches inside the Dilek Peninsula National Park are clean, pine-backed coves with crystal-clear water and a real away-from-it-all feel. The Aegean here is noticeably clearer and a touch cooler than the Mediterranean further south, which many swimmers actually prefer in the height of summer — refreshing rather than bath-warm. Blue Flag beaches and well-run resort sections mean you're never far from clean sand and an easy swim.

Things to do around Kuşadası

The unmissable day out is Ephesus — walk the marble main street past the Library of Celsus, the vast 25,000-seat theatre and the Temple of Hadrian, and it's easy to see why it's one of the most visited ancient sites on earth. Nearby are the House of the Virgin Mary, a pilgrimage chapel in the hills, and the Basilica of St John and the last column of the Temple of Artemis (one of the Seven Wonders) at Selçuk. The pretty wine village of Şirince makes a lovely half-day with lunch among the vines.

Beyond the ruins, the Dilek Peninsula National Park offers walking, swimming and wildlife in a protected wilderness, while the white travertine terraces and Roman pool of Pamukkale and Hierapolis are a popular (if longer) day trip inland. Families love the town's waterparks and the boat trips around the bay, and the Wednesday and Friday markets are an experience in themselves. To plan beyond the hotel, our guide to the best Turkey holidays sets out how regions like this fit together.

When to go to Kuşadası

Kuşadası's season runs spring to autumn, and the fresher Aegean climate makes the shoulder months especially good for sightseeing — here is how the months actually feel, and when our specialist would book.

WhenAirSeaOur take
April–May20–25°C17–20°CGreen and pleasant, and ideal for Ephesus before the heat; the sea is still cool but the town and pools are lovely, and prices are gentle.
June29°C22°CProper summer arrives with a warming sea and long days — a sweet spot for combining beach and sightseeing before the school holidays.
July–August33–34°C25–26°CPeak heat, peak buzz, peak prices — ideal for hot beach days, but visit Ephesus early in the morning to beat the midday sun.
September30°C25°COur pick: warm Aegean sea, softer heat, quieter beaches and far more comfortable conditions for exploring the ruins.
October25°C23°CA gentle wind-down — still swimmable and sunny, superb for sightseeing and lovely value for couples.

If you can choose your week freely, June and September give the best balance of warm water, comfortable heat and sensible prices — and they're far kinder than midsummer for walking Ephesus. Families tied to the summer break get the hottest, liveliest Kuşadası — book early, because the big aquapark resorts fill fast in July and August.

The practical parts

Getting there

You fly into İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport (ADB), the gateway for the central Aegean, and the transfer to Kuşadası is roughly 70 to 90 minutes by road. Many UK airports run direct services to İzmir through the summer, and every GoToBeach Turkey package includes your flights and your airport-to-hotel transfer at both ends.

Passports & entry

British passport holders currently don't need a visa for short tourist stays in Türkiye (up to 90 days in any 180). Your passport must meet Türkiye's validity rules — at the time of writing, valid for at least 150 days from arrival, with a blank page for the stamp. Entry rules can change at short notice, so always recheck the official guidance close to departure.

Money

The currency is the Turkish lira. Cards work fine in the resorts and most larger venues, but carry some cash for the bazaar, Ephesus extras, taxis and small cafés. Tipping is customary and appreciated — a little for housekeeping, waiters, guides and your driver goes a long way and is part of the local rhythm.

Health & insurance

A UK GHIC is not valid in Türkiye, so comprehensive travel insurance with proper medical cover is essential — we'd never send anyone without it. We can point you towards arranging suitable travel insurance when you book. In peak summer the sun is fierce, especially at Ephesus, so pack high-factor sun care, a hat and water.

Getting around

Dolmuş (shared minibuses) run constantly between Kuşadası, Ladies Beach, Selçuk and Ephesus, and they're cheap and easy. Taxis fill the gaps, and organised excursions cover the longer trips like Pamukkale. Hire a car if you want to explore Şirince, the Dilek Peninsula and the inland sites under your own steam.

Food & eating out

At the hotels you'll eat well from all-inclusive buffets and à la carte restaurants. Out in town, the Aegean kitchen shines — fresh fish, herb-rich meze, olive-oil vegetable dishes and grilled meats — best enjoyed at a harbour-side table or in the bazaar back-streets. Şirince's village restaurants and fruit wines are worth the trip up the hill.
