A GoToBeach customer information guide

The short version

GoToBeach flights depart from all major UK airports and many regional ones, and arrive at 12 destination airports across our 5 countries: Antalya, Dalaman and Bodrum (Turkey); Heraklion, Chania, Kos and Rhodes (Greece); Malta International; Marrakech and Agadir (Morocco); and Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh (Egypt). Each destination has its own visa, currency and entry requirements — this page covers the practical detail. For the definitive, up-to-date visa and entry rules for any country, always check gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice before you travel.

Before you fly — visa, currency, time zones, language

The five countries GoToBeach sells to have very different entry rules for UK passport holders, different currencies, different time zones, and different language environments at their airports. The table below is a high-level summary; the detail and the official source are linked below it.

Country Visa for UK passport holders Local currency Time difference from UK English at airport
Turkey E-visa required — apply online before travel Turkish Lira (TRY); Euro often accepted in resorts +2 to +3 hours (no UK-style DST) Widely spoken at international terminals
Greece Visa-free under Schengen rules (up to 90 days in any 180-day period) Euro (EUR) +2 hours year-round (Greek time tracks UK clock change) Widely spoken at all airports
Malta Visa-free under Schengen rules (up to 90 days in any 180-day period) Euro (EUR) +1 hour year-round (Maltese time tracks UK clock change) English is an official language
Morocco Visa-free for stays of up to 90 days Moroccan Dirham (MAD) — a "closed" currency, exchange locally on arrival Approximately the same as the UK, with seasonal variations French is the second language; English at major airports and tourist areas
Egypt Visa-on-arrival or e-visa; some Red Sea airports offer a free short-stay Sinai-only stamp at Sharm El Sheikh Egyptian Pound (EGP); USD widely accepted in tourist areas +2 hours year-round Widely spoken at tourist airports

Visa rules change — always verify with gov.uk before you fly

Visa and entry requirements are set by the destination government and can change at short notice. The high-level summary above is correct at the time of writing, but the definitive source for any UK traveller is the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office at gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice. Check the country page for your destination at least a few weeks before you travel, and again in the days before departure. Entry requirements can include passport validity (typically 6 months beyond your return date), blank passport pages, return ticket evidence, and proof of accommodation — details vary by country.

Turkish e-visa — how it works

UK passport holders need an e-visa to enter Turkey. The application is made online at the official portal (evisa.gov.tr) and is straightforward, taking only a few minutes. Pay by card, receive the e-visa by email, print it or save it on your phone. Apply before you fly — the e-visa is not issued at Turkish airports on arrival. The visa is typically valid for multiple short visits over 180 days; check the specific terms at the time of application.

Egyptian visa — the Sharm El Sheikh exception

UK passport holders typically need a tourist visa for Egypt, which can be obtained on arrival at major Egyptian international airports including Hurghada (HRG) and Sharm El Sheikh (SSH) by paying a small fee in USD, EUR or GBP cash at the visa counter before passport control. An e-visa is also available online for some travellers. There is a notable exception at Sharm El Sheikh: travellers staying within the Sharm El Sheikh / South Sinai area for up to 15 days may receive a free Sinai-only stamp at the airport, which permits stays within the South Sinai region but not travel inland to Cairo, Luxor or other parts of Egypt. If you plan to take a day trip outside South Sinai, you’ll need a full Egyptian visa instead. Check the current arrangement on gov.uk before you fly.

Currency notes

  • Turkey: ATMs accept UK debit cards almost universally. Euros are widely accepted in resort areas alongside the Turkish Lira; expect change in Lira. Tipping in resort areas often happens in Euros or Lira.
  • Greece and Malta: Both use the Euro. Standard UK card use applies; check with your bank about overseas transaction fees.
  • Morocco: The Dirham is a closed currency — legally you cannot bring large amounts in or out. Exchange at the airport bureau de change on arrival, or use ATMs. Most resort transactions accept Dirham; some tourist areas accept Euro or card.
  • Egypt: The Egyptian Pound is the official currency, but USD is widely used in tourist areas and resort hotels. Tipping is a significant part of service culture; small denominations in Egyptian Pound or USD are useful.

UK departure airports

GoToBeach books flights from all major UK departure airports and most regional ones. Which airports are available for your specific destination depends on which airlines fly that route in the relevant travel period. For full detail on airlines and how dynamic packaging shapes your flight options, see our Airlines and Flight Conditions page.

  • London airports: Heathrow (LHR), Gatwick (LGW), Stansted (STN), Luton (LTN), London City (LCY). Heathrow is the main hub for British Airways and Turkish Airlines scheduled routes; Stansted and Luton are dominant for Ryanair and Wizz Air; Gatwick covers EasyJet and a mix.
  • Manchester (MAN): One of the strongest UK regional airports for leisure routes, with frequent service to all five GoToBeach destination countries.
  • Birmingham (BHX): Good year-round coverage to Turkey, Greece, Malta and Egypt.
  • Bristol (BRS): Strong Turkey and Greece coverage; some Egypt.
  • East Midlands (EMA): Substantial leisure flight programme to Mediterranean destinations.
  • Newcastle (NCL), Liverpool (LPL), Leeds Bradford (LBA): Regional access to most destinations seasonally.
  • Edinburgh (EDI), Glasgow (GLA): Mediterranean leisure routes year-round and seasonally.
  • Belfast International (BFS): Selected leisure routes.

Turkey — Antalya, Dalaman, Bodrum

Turkey’s three principal leisure airports for UK travellers serve the Mediterranean and Aegean coasts. All three operate 24 hours, have international and domestic terminals, accept UK debit and credit cards, and offer Wi-Fi (registration may be required).

Antalya Airport AYT

Terminals: Two international terminals (T1 and T2) plus a domestic terminal. UK arrivals are typically processed at T2, the larger and more modern international terminal. International airline operations are split between T1 and T2 depending on the carrier.

Notable for: Antalya is the gateway airport for Turkey’s Mediterranean resort coast, including Belek (a major golf hub), Lara, Kemer, Side and Alanya. Volumes are particularly high during the April-to-October summer season.

Practical: ATMs, currency exchange and SIM card vendors are widely available in the arrivals area. Multiple lounges are available at T2, including third-party lounges accessible via Priority Pass, Lounge Key and similar memberships. Free airport Wi-Fi requires SMS registration. Smoking areas are designated outside the terminal building.

Meeting your transfer: Transfer pickup is typically just outside the international arrivals exit on the meet-and-greet level. Your transfer voucher confirms the exact meeting point.

Dalaman Airport DLM

Terminals: One international terminal and one domestic terminal, with the international terminal modernised in recent years. Smaller scale than Antalya but very heavily UK-focused during summer.

Notable for: Gateway to Fethiye, Hisaronu, Olu Deniz, Marmaris, Icmeler, Sarigerme and the western Mediterranean coastline.

Practical: ATMs and currency exchange in arrivals; cafes and shops landside and airside; smoking areas outside the terminal. Free Wi-Fi via SMS registration.

Meeting your transfer: The arrivals hall is compact, so meeting your transfer rep is straightforward. Pickup is just outside the arrivals exit.

Bodrum (Milas-Bodrum) Airport BJV

Terminals: Separate international and domestic terminals. UK arrivals use the international terminal. Compact, modern facility.

Notable for: Bodrum, Yalikavak, Turgutreis, Gumbet, Bitez, Akyarlar and the Bodrum peninsula in general. Approximately 36 km from Bodrum centre.

Practical: ATMs, currency exchange and small selection of cafes and shops; Wi-Fi available; smoking areas outside.

Meeting your transfer: Transfer rep is typically at the international arrivals exit. Your transfer voucher provides the precise meeting point.

Greece — Heraklion, Chania, Kos, Rhodes

Greece’s island airports operate year-round but with significantly increased volumes from late spring to early autumn. All four airports in our portfolio are EU airports under Schengen rules, so UK arrivals pass through standard passport control. ATMs are widely available; Euro is the standard.

Heraklion (Nikos Kazantzakis) Airport HER

Terminals: One single terminal serving both domestic and international flights. Heraklion is Crete’s main airport and one of the busiest Greek island airports.

Notable for: Gateway to central and eastern Crete: Heraklion centre, Hersonissos, Stalida, Malia, Agios Nikolaos, Lasithi area, Agia Pelagia and Kokkini Hani. A replacement airport at Kastelli is under construction; until it opens, Heraklion remains the principal Crete hub.

Practical: ATMs and currency exchange in the terminal; cafes and shops both landside and airside; lounge access available via Priority Pass and similar; free Wi-Fi.

Meeting your transfer: Transfer pickup is just outside the arrivals exit on the ground floor.

Chania (Ioannis Daskalogiannis) Airport CHQ

Terminals: One single modernised terminal. Serves western Crete.

Notable for: Gateway to Chania, Rethymno area, and the western Crete beach destinations.

Practical: ATMs, currency exchange, cafes, free Wi-Fi via portal registration.

Meeting your transfer: Arrivals exit; the terminal is small enough that finding your rep is straightforward.

Kos (Hippocrates) Airport KGS

Terminals: One compact terminal. Heavily UK-charter focused during summer.

Notable for: Gateway to all Kos destinations: Kardamena, Mastichari, Kos Town, Tigaki, Psalidi and Lambi. Mitsis hotels at Kardamena (Blue Domes, Norida, Family Village, Summer Palace) are within 15–25 minutes of the airport.

Practical: ATMs, currency exchange, cafes, free Wi-Fi. The terminal can be busy at peak summer arrival times.

Meeting your transfer: The arrivals area is compact; transfer pickup is just outside the exit. Your voucher confirms the exact spot.

Rhodes (Diagoras) Airport RHO

Terminals: One terminal, one of the busiest Greek island airports during summer.

Notable for: Gateway to all Rhodes destinations: Rhodes Town, Ixia, Faliraki, Lindos, Kiotari and the rest of the island.

Practical: ATMs, currency exchange, cafes and shops; free Wi-Fi via SMS registration.

Meeting your transfer: Transfer rep is just outside the international arrivals exit.

Malta International Airport MLA

Malta International is the country’s only commercial airport. It operates year-round, has been substantially modernised, and offers a smooth arrival experience for UK travellers, particularly given that English is an official language of Malta.

Malta International Airport MLA

Terminals: One modern terminal handling all commercial traffic.

Notable for: Gateway to all Maltese destinations: Sliema, St Julians, Valletta, St Paul’s Bay, Mellieha, Gzira, plus Gozo (which requires an onward ferry from Cirkewwa). EU airport under Schengen rules, so standard passport control for UK arrivals.

Practical: ATMs and currency exchange in arrivals; standard range of cafes, shops and pharmacies; free Wi-Fi for two hours; Priority Pass lounge access available. Smoking areas outside the terminal. The terminal is compact, well-signposted, and English-speaking throughout.

Meeting your transfer: Transfer pickup is at the welcomers’ area outside the arrivals exit on the ground floor. The airport is well-organised and your transfer voucher will direct you precisely.

Morocco — Marrakech, Agadir

Morocco’s two main leisure airports for UK travellers serve very different parts of the country — Marrakech for the imperial city and Atlas Mountains region, Agadir for the Atlantic coast and southern beach resorts. Both have modern facilities; French is the dominant second language, with English in tourist-facing roles.

Marrakech (Marrakech Menara) Airport RAK

Terminals: Two terminals. Terminal 1 handles most scheduled airlines including some long-haul; Terminal 2 generally handles low-cost airlines. The airport is around 6 km from the Marrakech Medina and Hivernage districts, making transfer times short.

Notable for: Gateway to Marrakech, the Atlas Mountains and the imperial cities region. Year-round destination with strong winter sun appeal.

Practical: ATMs in arrivals to obtain Dirham (the Moroccan Dirham is a closed currency, so you cannot buy it in advance in the UK). Currency exchange counters. Cafes and a small selection of shops landside and airside; free Wi-Fi via registration. Visa on arrival is not normally required for UK passport holders, who get a visa-free stamp.

Meeting your transfer: Transfer rep is at the arrivals exit. Your voucher confirms the precise meeting point at either terminal.

Agadir (Al Massira) Airport AGA

Terminals: One terminal serving both international and domestic operations. Around 28 km from Agadir city centre.

Notable for: Gateway to Agadir, Taghazout and the Atlantic coast resort area.

Practical: ATMs and currency exchange in arrivals; standard cafe and shop facilities; free Wi-Fi available; smoking permitted in designated outside areas.

Meeting your transfer: Transfer rep is typically just outside the arrivals exit on the ground floor.

Egypt — Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh

Egypt’s two principal Red Sea airports are heavily UK-focused during the autumn-winter-spring season, with peak volumes around school holidays. Both have undergone modernisation in recent years and operate dedicated international terminals.

Hurghada International Airport HRG

Terminals: Two terminals — T1 (older, primarily domestic) and T2 (newer, modern, handles most international traffic including UK arrivals).

Notable for: Gateway to Hurghada centre, El Bahr, Sahl Hashish, Makadi Bay, El Gouna and the wider Hurghada Red Sea coast. Volumes peak in autumn, winter and spring.

Practical: Visa on arrival is the standard arrangement for UK passport holders — pay the fee (commonly in USD, EUR or GBP cash) at the visa counter before passport control. ATMs and currency exchange in arrivals; cafes and shops; free Wi-Fi.

Meeting your transfer: Transfer rep is at the arrivals exit. Hurghada’s transfer pickup area can be busy at peak arrival times; your voucher provides specific instructions.

Sharm El Sheikh International Airport SSH

Terminals: Two terminals (T1 and T2). UK international arrivals are typically handled at T1 or T2 depending on the specific airline and flight.

Notable for: Gateway to Hadaba, Naama Bay, Sharks Bay, Nabq Bay and the Sharm El Sheikh / South Sinai area generally.

Practical: Travellers staying within South Sinai for up to 15 days may receive a free Sinai-only stamp at the airport on arrival, rather than a full Egyptian visa. This does not permit travel to mainland Egypt (Cairo, Luxor and similar excursions require a full visa). If your trip includes any inland excursion, obtain a full Egyptian visa instead. Check the current rules on gov.uk before you fly. ATMs, currency exchange, cafes and Wi-Fi are all available.

Meeting your transfer: Transfer rep is at the arrivals exit; your voucher specifies the meeting point.

Special assistance and accessibility

All the airports we work with offer assistance services for travellers with reduced mobility, visual or hearing impairments, or other accessibility needs. The single most important thing you can do is request assistance in advance — ideally at the time of booking, and always at least 48 hours before your flight.

Practical points:

  • Assistance services are coordinated by the airline and the airport ground handler at each end of your trip. We can flag your needs to the airline at the time of booking; the airline will then add the relevant assistance code to your reservation.
  • You may need a separate request for the departure airport and the destination airport — UK and EU passenger rights regulations cover both directions.
  • Powered mobility equipment (wheelchairs, mobility scooters) usually requires advance notice to the airline, particularly when lithium batteries are involved.
  • At the destination airport, the assistance team will meet you at the aircraft door (or at the airbridge) and accompany you through arrivals to the transfer pickup point.
  • If you have a hidden disability (autism, dementia, anxiety in crowded environments), many airports operate sunflower lanyard schemes that signal to staff that you may need additional patience or support. Lanyards are available free of charge from airport information desks.

For full detail on transfer accessibility once you’ve cleared the airport, see our Transfers information page.

If your flight or airport details change

Flight times occasionally change between booking and travel, and very occasionally a flight may be diverted, cancelled or rebooked onto a different airport. In all cases:

  • The airline notifies us (and usually you directly) as soon as the change is confirmed. Check your email and the airline’s app or website if you receive a notification.
  • For schedule changes that affect your transfer or hotel arrival, call us on +44 208 211 00 01 or email hi@gotobeach.co.uk and we’ll coordinate the rest of your package on your behalf.
  • For day-of-travel disruption (e.g. a flight cancelled on the day), the operating airline is your point of contact in the first instance — they can rebook you on the next available flight more quickly than we can from the office. Once the immediate situation is sorted, contact us so we can adjust your onward arrangements.

For complete detail on what to do if your flight is delayed, cancelled or diverted, see our Airlines and Flight Conditions page.

Frequently asked questions

Which UK airports does GoToBeach fly from?

We book flights from all major UK departure airports including Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton, London City, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, East Midlands, Newcastle, Liverpool, Leeds Bradford, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Belfast International. The exact airports available for your destination depend on which airlines fly that route in your travel period. We’ll show you live options during the booking process.

Do I need a visa to travel to my GoToBeach destination?

It depends on the destination. Turkey requires an e-visa applied for online before travel (evisa.gov.tr). Egypt typically requires a visa on arrival or e-visa, with a Sinai-only exception for short stays at Sharm El Sheikh. Greece, Malta and Morocco are visa-free for UK passport holders for stays up to 90 days. For the definitive, up-to-date rules for any country, always check the relevant country page at gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice before you fly.

What currency should I take to my destination?

Greece and Malta use the Euro. Turkey uses the Turkish Lira but widely accepts Euros in resort areas. Morocco uses the Dirham, which is a closed currency — exchange Euros, GBP or USD on arrival at the airport or at local banks. Egypt uses the Egyptian Pound but USD is widely used in tourist areas and resort hotels. ATMs are available at all twelve of our destination airports and accept UK debit and credit cards.

Will there be Wi-Fi at the destination airport?

Yes — all twelve of our destination airports offer free Wi-Fi for travellers, typically via a portal registration or SMS verification. Coverage and speed vary; we recommend not relying on airport Wi-Fi for time-critical tasks like buying e-visas, which should be done before you fly.

Where do I meet my transfer at the destination airport?

Two or three days before you fly, you’ll receive a transfer voucher by email with the exact meeting point at your specific destination airport. Look for a representative holding a sign with the name on your transfer voucher — this may be GoToBeach, our local supplier, or the ground-handling company operating your transfer at that airport. For more detail, see our Transfers information page.

What if my flight is delayed — what should I do at the airport?

For UK departure delays, follow the airline’s instructions at the gate or check-in area. For destination airport delays affecting your transfer, contact the local supplier number on your transfer voucher and call our office on +44 208 211 00 01 or email hi@gotobeach.co.uk. For detail on operational disruption generally, see our Airlines and Flight Conditions page.

Are there lounges I can use during a long layover?

Yes — lounges are available at most of our destination airports, accessible via membership programmes such as Priority Pass, Lounge Key, DragonPass or direct booking. Antalya Airport in particular has multiple lounges at Terminal 2, including third-party lounges. If you have a long wait, lounge access can be a worthwhile add-on. Check with your specific airport on its lounge options.

What if I have a mobility need at the airport?

All the airports we work with offer assistance services. Request assistance at the time you book your holiday, and at least 48 hours before your flight, so we can flag your needs to the airline and the airport ground handler. Powered mobility equipment (wheelchairs, scooters) usually requires extra notice, particularly with lithium batteries. The assistance team meets you at the aircraft door at the destination airport and accompanies you through arrivals.

Can I exchange currency at the destination airport?

Yes, currency exchange counters and ATMs are available at all twelve of our destination airports. Exchange rates at airports are typically less favourable than in city centres, so we recommend exchanging only what you’ll need for the first day or two at the airport, and topping up via ATMs as needed during your stay. For Morocco specifically, exchange on arrival is the only practical option since Dirham is a closed currency.

What does "visa on arrival" mean and how do I get one?

A visa on arrival is a tourist visa issued at the destination airport when you land, before you pass through passport control. For Egypt specifically, the visa on arrival is typically paid in cash (USD, EUR or GBP) at a visa counter located before the passport control queue. Pay the fee, receive a stamp or sticker in your passport, then proceed to passport control. The Sinai-only exception at Sharm El Sheikh provides a free short-stay stamp for travellers remaining in the South Sinai area only. Check the current arrangement on gov.uk before you fly.
