Why Book Your Dalaman Area Holiday with GotoBeach?

Dalaman is the gateway to Turkey's Turquoise Coast — the stretch of south-west shoreline that most people picture when they imagine Turkey at its most beautiful. From the airport you are within easy reach of three very different bases: the pine-fringed lagoons of Fethiye and Ölüdeniz, the lively horseshoe bay of Marmaris, and the calm, family-friendly Blue Flag sands of Sarıgerme just minutes from the runway. This is a coast of jagged mountains tumbling into impossibly clear water, gulet cruises, hidden coves and the Lycian Way — a more scenic, more characterful alternative to the big resort strips further east.

Every Dalaman package we sell carries full ATOL financial protection under licence #11211, and your ATOL Certificate arrives the moment you book — read how your ATOL financial protection works before you commit. The hotels we feature across the Dalaman region have been hand-picked and inspected in person against our 22-point criteria, never lifted from a brochure, so when we point you towards somewhere it is because one of our team has walked the grounds and timed the walk to the water for themselves.

"Dalaman is my favourite part of the Turkish coast — it's where the scenery does the heavy lifting," says Raşit Eti, our Turkey Destination Specialist, who has spent more than thirty years in Turkish tourism, from senior management at Sunrise Queen and Mylome Luxury to director roles at Air Tours, and still walks this coast every season. "Ölüdeniz has one of the most photographed beaches on earth, Marmaris is the big lively bay with the day trips and the nightlife, and Sarıgerme is the quiet family secret right next to the airport. Whichever you choose, the gulet cruises and the mountain backdrops are what people remember." If you want the bigger picture first, his overview of where to stay in Turkey and his pick of the best Turkey holidays set the Turquoise Coast next to Antalya and the Aegean. The resorts of the Dalaman coast

Inspected in person · 22-point criteria

Dalaman isn't one resort — it's the gateway to three. Each sits a short transfer from the airport, and each suits a different kind of traveller. Here's how they compare, so you can pick the right base before you choose a hotel.

Turquoise Coast · Dalaman

Fethiye & Ölüdeniz

Scenery & Adventure
★★★★★

The most spectacular corner of the coast — the Blue Lagoon at Ölüdeniz, paragliding off Babadağ, the Lycian Way, Butterfly Valley and the marina town of Göcek. A base for travellers who want jaw-dropping scenery, gulet cruises and a bit of adventure alongside the beach.

🏖 Blue Lagoon & Çalış beach · 45–60 min from DLM

Turquoise Coast · Dalaman

Marmaris

Lively & Sociable
★★★★★

A big, sheltered horseshoe bay backed by pine-clad hills, with a long promenade, Bar Street nightlife, a busy marina and the quieter neighbours of İçmeler and Turunç along the shore. The pick for a lively, sociable week with day trips to Rhodes, Dalyan and Cleopatra Island on tap.

🏖 Long bay-front beach · 90 min from DLM

Turquoise Coast · Dalaman

Sarıgerme

Quiet & Family
★★★★★

A calm, green pocket of long golden Blue Flag sand backed by pine forest, with the shortest transfer of any resort on this coast — barely 20 minutes from the runway. A small, select line-up of resorts makes it the quiet family secret of the Dalaman region.

🏖 Blue Flag golden sand · 20–25 min from DLM

Turquoise Coast · Dalaman

Göcek & the marinas

Sailing & Calm
★★★★★

A chic little sailing town of pristine marinas, pine-fringed islands and calm, sheltered water just east of Fethiye — the launch point for the prettiest gulet cruises on the coast. Featured within our Fethiye programme for couples who want polish and quiet over crowds.

🛥 Marina town & island coves · 25–35 min from DLM

Three bases, one airport, three very different holidays. If you can't decide, talk it through with us — every resort on this coast is covered by one straightforward GoToBeach Turkey package with flights and transfers included. Adults-only travellers in particular are well served around Marmaris and Fethiye; see our adult-only hotels selection for the grown-up picks.

Discover the Dalaman coast

What sets the Dalaman region apart from the rest of Turkey is the landscape. This is the Turquoise Coast, where the Taurus foothills drop straight into a sea so clear it gives the coast its name, and the shoreline crinkles into a thousand coves, lagoons and pine-covered islands. It is a coast made for being on the water — gulet cruises out of Fethiye, Göcek and Marmaris are the signature day out, drifting between swim stops with lunch served on deck — and for walkers, the Lycian Way threads along the cliffs above Ölüdeniz past some of the finest sea views in the Mediterranean.

Geography shapes the choice. Sarıgerme sits closest to the airport, a quiet green pocket ideal for families who want minimal transfer and maximum beach. Fethiye and Ölüdeniz, around an hour west, deliver the showpiece scenery and the adventure — paragliding, lagoon, Lycian ruins. Marmaris, an hour and a half the other way, is the big lively bay with the nightlife, the marina and the easiest day trips to Rhodes and Dalyan. For couples it tends to be Göcek or Ölüdeniz; for families, Sarıgerme or Çalış; for a sociable week, Marmaris. If you're still weighing Dalaman against the wider country, our guide to where to stay in Turkey sets it all in context.

Dalaman's beaches & seafront

The Dalaman coast offers some of the most photographed beaches in Turkey. Ölüdeniz, with its sheltered Blue Lagoon and sweep of white shingle beneath the green bulk of Babadağ, is regularly named among the world's most beautiful — a protected national park where the water shades from turquoise to deep blue. Çalış, just up the coast, is a long flat beach famous for its sunsets and easy paddling. Around Sarıgerme you get a generous run of golden Blue Flag sand backed by pine forest and a gently shelving sea that suits children, while Marmaris and its neighbours İçmeler and Turunç offer sheltered bay-front beaches with calm, clear water and a full row of beach clubs. Almost every resort runs its own sunbeds, parasols and bar service, and water-sports operators run jet-skis, parascending and the all-important boat trips through the season. Wherever you stay, a gulet cruise to a hidden cove is part of the week.

Things to do around Dalaman

The water is where it starts. A gulet day-cruise — swim stops in turquoise coves, lunch on deck, the coastline drifting past — is the classic Dalaman day out from Fethiye, Göcek or Marmaris. From Ölüdeniz, the tandem paragliders launching off Babadağ and spiralling down to the lagoon are one of the great sights of the Turkish coast, and you can fly yourself if you're brave enough. Boat trips run to Butterfly Valley, the Blue Lagoon and the twelve islands of Göcek bay.

Inland and along the shore there's history and nature in equal measure. Dalyan's reed-lined river leads to the rock-cut Lycian tombs of Kaunos and the loggerhead turtle beach at İztuzu; Saklıkent Gorge offers a cool walk through towering canyon walls; and the ancient cities of Tlos and Pınara sit in the hills above Fethiye. From Marmaris, day boats cross to the Greek island of Rhodes, and the mud baths and Cleopatra Island near Dalyan are favourite excursions. To set the region against the rest of the country before you book, our overview of the best Turkey holidays is a good place to start.

When to go to Dalaman

Dalaman's season runs from spring to late autumn, and the sea takes a while to warm up — here's how the months actually feel, and when our specialist would book.

When Air Sea Our take
April–May 20–26°C 18–21°C Warm, green and gorgeous; the sea is still bracing but the scenery is at its best — ideal for walking the Lycian Way and gulet cruises before the heat.
June 30°C 23°C Reliable summer warmth with a sea that's finally swimmable. A sweet spot before the school holidays land.
July–August 34–36°C 26–27°C Peak heat, peak buzz, peak prices — ideal if you want hot days, a warm sea and the full lively version of Marmaris and Ölüdeniz.
September 31°C 26°C Our pick: summer-warm sea, softer heat, fewer crowds once schools go back — perfect for cruises and beaches alike.
October 25–26°C 23°C A gentle wind-down — still swimmable and sunny, lovely for couples and a calmer, cheaper week.

If you can pick your week freely, late May, June and September give you the best balance of warm water, comfortable heat and sensible prices. Families locked into the summer break get the hottest, liveliest version of the coast — book early, as the best Sarıgerme and Ölüdeniz hotels fill fastest in July and August.

The practical parts

Getting there

You fly into Dalaman Airport (DLM), the gateway for the whole Turquoise Coast, with direct services from many UK airports through the summer. Transfers range from around 20 minutes for Sarıgerme to about 90 minutes for Marmaris. Every GoToBeach Turkey package includes your flights and your airport-to-hotel transfer at both ends.

Passports & entry

British passport holders currently don't need a visa for short tourist stays in Türkiye (up to 90 days in any 180). Your passport must meet Türkiye's validity rules — at the time of writing, valid for at least 150 days from arrival, with a blank page for the stamp. Entry rules can change at short notice, so always recheck the official guidance close to departure.

Money

The currency is the Turkish lira. Cards work fine inside the resorts and at most larger venues, but it's worth carrying some cash for markets, taxis, boat trips and small cafés in town. Tipping is customary and appreciated — a little for housekeeping, waiters and your driver goes a long way and is part of the local rhythm.

Health & insurance

A UK GHIC is not valid in Türkiye, so comprehensive travel insurance with proper medical cover is essential — we'd never send anyone without it. We can point you towards arranging suitable travel insurance when you book. In peak summer the sun is fierce, so pack high-factor sun care and take it easy on arrival day.

Getting around

The resorts are self-contained, so you can happily spend the week without transport. When you fancy a change, dolmuş minibuses and water taxis link the bays — handy along the Fethiye–Çalış and Marmaris–İçmeler shores. Hire a car only if you plan to chase the inland gorges and ruins under your own steam — otherwise the boat trips cover the highlights.

Food & eating out

At the hotels you'll eat well from generous all-inclusive buffets plus à la carte restaurants. When you head out, the harbours of Fethiye, Göcek and Marmaris do superb fresh fish and meze right by the water, and the local markets are worth a wander. Many of our Dalaman hotels run on all-inclusive — see our Turkey all-inclusive guide.
