ATOL Protection with GoToBeach
The short version
Flight-inclusive package holidays sold by GoToBeach are financially protected under Caria Holidays Ltd’s ATOL licence 11211, where confirmed on your ATOL Certificate. Your ATOL Certificate is the key document: it shows exactly what is protected, who is covered, and which ATOL holder is providing the protection. ATOL is financial protection if the travel company fails. It is not travel insurance and does not cover medical emergencies, customer cancellation, lost baggage, flight delays or normal holiday complaints. We strongly recommend suitable travel insurance for every booking.

What is ATOL protection?
ATOL stands for Air Travel Organisers’ Licensing. It is a UK financial protection scheme managed by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). In simple terms, ATOL protects eligible flight-inclusive package holidays if the travel company responsible for the protected booking ceases trading.
ATOL is especially important for UK holidaymakers booking a package that includes a flight. If an ATOL-protected travel company fails before you travel, the scheme may provide a refund for the protected booking. If the failure happens while you are abroad, the scheme may help with repatriation to the UK or continuation of the trip where possible, in line with the ATOL scheme.
GoToBeach ATOL number
GoToBeach is a trading style of Caria Holidays Ltd. Flight-inclusive package holidays sold by GoToBeach are protected under ATOL licence 11211, where this is confirmed on the ATOL Certificate issued for your booking.
Your ATOL Certificate
Your ATOL Certificate is the most important protection document for a flight-inclusive package holiday. When you make a payment for an ATOL-protected booking, you should receive an ATOL Certificate. It tells you:
- What is protected by ATOL
- Who is covered by the protection
- Who is providing the protection, including the travel business name and ATOL number
- What to do if the ATOL holder stops trading
Keep your ATOL Certificate safe and take a digital or paper copy with you when you travel. If you have booked a flight-inclusive package holiday with us and do not receive your ATOL Certificate, contact us before you travel.
The ATOL Certificate, not a general website statement, confirms exactly what applies to your booking. If a service is not listed on your certificate, do not assume it is ATOL protected.
Which GoToBeach bookings are ATOL protected?
ATOL protection depends on the type of booking. The clearest rule is this: check your ATOL Certificate. It confirms whether your booking is protected and which travel services are covered.
| Booking type | Typical ATOL position | Important note |
|---|---|---|
| Flight + hotel package | Normally ATOL protected where sold and confirmed by GoToBeach as a flight-inclusive package. | Your ATOL Certificate confirms exactly what is protected. |
| Flight + hotel + transfer package | Normally ATOL protected where sold and confirmed as a flight-inclusive package. | The certificate shows whether the transfer is included in the protected package. |
| Accommodation-only booking | Usually not ATOL protected because ATOL is linked to eligible flight-inclusive travel arrangements. | Other legal or supplier protections may apply, but this is not the same as ATOL. |
| Transfer-only booking | Usually not ATOL protected. | Supplier terms and local transfer conditions apply. |
| Airport parking, lounges, fast track or other airport extras | Usually not ATOL protected unless specifically included as part of a protected package and shown on the certificate. | These services are often booked directly with the airport or third-party provider. |
What ATOL can cover
ATOL is designed to protect customers from the financial failure of the ATOL holder or protected travel arrangements. Depending on when the failure happens, ATOL may help with:
- Refund before travel where your protected trip cannot go ahead because of the travel company’s financial failure
- Repatriation to the UK if you are already abroad when the protected travel company fails
- Continuation of the trip where possible, depending on the circumstances and the ATOL scheme process
- Instructions on how to claim, as shown on your ATOL Certificate
ATOL is not designed to deal with normal operational problems. That is why it is important to understand the difference between financial protection and travel insurance.
What ATOL does not cover
ATOL does not replace travel insurance, airline passenger rights or supplier terms. You cannot usually claim from ATOL for normal holiday disruption or dissatisfaction.
| Issue | Is this normally ATOL? | Where to look instead |
|---|---|---|
| Flight delay or schedule change | No | Airline rules and travel insurance |
| Flight cancellation by airline | Usually no, unless linked to supplier/company failure within the protected package | Airline rebooking/refund process, package support, travel insurance |
| Lost, delayed or damaged baggage | No | Airline baggage process and travel insurance |
| Medical emergency abroad | No | Travel insurance and local healthcare arrangements |
| You cancel for personal reasons | No | Supplier cancellation terms and travel insurance if the reason is covered |
| Missed departure | No | Airline rules and travel insurance, depending on policy terms |
| Hotel complaint or poor service | No | GoToBeach customer service, hotel/supplier complaint process |
| Visa, passport or entry issue | No | Customer responsibility, official government advice, travel insurance where applicable |
ATOL is not travel insurance
ATOL is financial protection if a protected travel company fails. It does not cover medical bills, repatriation for illness or injury, cancellation for personal reasons, lost belongings, delays or missed departures. For those risks, you need suitable travel insurance.
ATOL vs travel insurance
ATOL and travel insurance protect different things. A well-protected holiday normally uses both: ATOL for eligible financial failure protection, and travel insurance for personal and operational risks.
| ATOL protection | Travel insurance | |
|---|---|---|
| Main purpose | Financial protection if the ATOL-protected travel company fails | Cover for medical emergencies, cancellation, baggage, delays and other insured risks |
| Included automatically? | Included where your booking is sold and confirmed as ATOL protected | No. You must buy it separately unless explicitly stated otherwise |
| Proof | Your ATOL Certificate | Your insurance policy schedule and certificate |
| Medical emergencies | Not covered | Can be covered, depending on policy terms and exclusions |
| Customer cancellation | Not covered | Can be covered for specified reasons, depending on policy terms |
We strongly recommend arranging suitable travel insurance as soon as you book, so that cancellation cover is in place from the start of your booking.
What to check before and after booking
Before you confirm your holiday, check the booking details carefully. After booking, check your ATOL Certificate and travel documents as soon as you receive them.
- Check the traveller names match passports exactly
- Check the flight details, departure airport, arrival airport and dates
- Check the hotel name, room type and board basis
- Check whether transfers are included and how they are shown
- Check whether baggage is included or needs to be added
- Check the ATOL Certificate and keep a copy with you
- Arrange travel insurance immediately after booking
If something on your ATOL Certificate or booking confirmation does not look right, contact us as soon as possible. It is much easier to correct a document query well before travel than at the airport or after departure.
