Adult Only Hotels in Malta

Adult-only hotels in Malta — chosen in person

Malta has three genuine adults-only hotels in our programme. Three. I would rather open with that than pad the page out, because the useful conversation about a grown-up week here is about the island rather than the hotel. Baroque churches, a diving coast, wine from Gozo, dinner at nine: none of it needs an age limit on the front door.

If you want certainty of a quiet pool, the three below deliver it, and I have checked each against our 22-point criteria. Every flight-inclusive package is protected under ATOL licence 11211.

Why here

Why Malta works for adults-only

The island rewards curiosity more than sunbathing. Dive a wreck before lunch, walk a fortified capital in an afternoon, eat rabbit stew in a village four hundred years old — everything within an hour's drive, so a week need not mean a week beside one pool. Flights are short and the season is long, which makes Malta unusually good for the off-peak trips adults-only guests tend to book. What it lacks is a wide adults-only market, so the trick is matching one of three to the week you want.

The shortlist

The hotels we recommend

The complete adults-only list in our Malta programme.

  • Bed & breakfast · Spa · MellieħaRiviera Spa Resort Adult Only

The quiet one, above the north-west coast with Gozo on the horizon. Bed and breakfast, a spa on site, and the most restful of the three. Also in our spa hotel selection.

  • Bed & breakfast · 16+ · St Paul's BaySeaview Hotel Adults Only 16 Plus

Over-16s, on the Qawra side of the bay with the promenade at the door. Well positioned rather than grand — the sensible-money choice if you want to walk to dinner.

  • Room only · City · St Julian'sH Hotel

The urban option, in the middle of St Julian's and closest to the restaurants and bars. A city hotel rather than a resort — book it for a short break spent out most evenings.

If those dates do not work, plenty of Maltese hotels are quiet by nature rather than policy — our top hotels in Malta flag which. For the wider view, see our adults-only selection across five countries.

Location

Where exactly to stay

The three sit in three different Maltas, which makes the decision easier than it looks. the bay at Mellieħa is the green, hilly north with the biggest sandy beach and the Gozo ferry close by. St Paul's Bay and Qawra is flatter, busier, built around a promenade. St Julian's and Paceville is the going-out end, ten minutes from Valletta.

the seafront at Sliema next door is the calmer alternative with the best harbour walk, and the island of Gozo is quieter again — a day trip, or a two-centre week. The full picture sits in our Malta and Gozo programme.

Practical

What to know before booking

  • None of the three is all-inclusive. Two run bed and breakfast and one is room only. That is normal for Malta, and honestly it suits the island — but if you want everything covered, look at our all-inclusive hotels in Malta instead.
  • Check the exact age rule. Seaview states 16 plus; the others set their own. We confirm the current minimum in writing before you pay a deposit.
  • Swimming is off rock and platform. Malta's water is exceptionally clear but its coast is limestone. For sand, base yourself near Mellieħa.
  • Hire a car, or do not. Buses reach almost everywhere cheaply but slowly. For Gozo and the western cliffs a car pays for itself; in St Julian's it is a liability.
  • Entry and cover. Maltese entry requirements and passport validity rules are updated periodically, so read the official guidance before departure and carry proper travel insurance as well as a UK GHIC.

On protection: a package including flights is covered by ATOL licence 11211, and your certificate lists each protected element. A hotel booked without flights is not, and we make that clear before you pay — detail on our financial protection page.

Questions

Frequently asked questions about adults-only Malta

Are there really only three adults-only hotels?
Three in our programme, yes. Malta's hotel stock is mostly mid-size and mixed, and the adults-only concept never took hold here as it did in Turkey or Greece.
Which of the three should we book?
Riviera for a quiet, restful week with a spa; Seaview if you want a promenade and somewhere to walk to; H Hotel if the point of the trip is Valletta, restaurants and going out. Tell me which of those sounds right and the decision makes itself.
Can we have a grown-up week without an adults-only hotel?
Easily, and many of our guests do. Book somewhere small in Sliema or on Gozo outside the school holidays and the island does the rest. May, June, late September and October are my months.
Is Malta good for a couple's short break?
Very. The flight is short, the island compact, and three nights fill easily with Valletta, a boat trip and two good dinners. One of the few places we sell where a long weekend genuinely works.
What is there to do beyond the beach?
A great deal: diving on some of the clearest water in the Mediterranean, the walled cities of Valletta and Mdina, prehistoric temples, and a food scene that repays booking ahead.
